Animals were immunized with lacto-N-nor-hexaosylceramide non-covalently adsorbed to naked Salmonella minnesota. Spleen cells were fused with NS-1 myeloma cells. The antibody is specific for the non-reducing terminal N-acetyllactosamine and does not react with glycolipids having a type I chain, a ganglio series structure or a sialosyl or fucosyl substitution at the N-acetyllactosamine residue. The antibody agglutinates all adult human erythrocytes but not umbilical cord blood erythrocytes. Tested and found negative for ectromelia virus (mousepox). |
