Protocol: It is possible to distinguish the aro1B, 1C, 1D, and aro2 mutations from the trp1, 3, 4, and 5 mutations in a doubly marked strain by the following test: The aro1B, 1C, 1D, and aro2 mutants do not grow on trp- media but will grow on trp- media with 20 mg of anthranylic acid per liter of medium. Trp- strains (except trp2) will not grow on anthranylate.
