Isolation |
Throat washings from Army recruit, New Jersey, 1961 |
Product Format |
frozen 1 mL per vial |
Storage Conditions |
-70°C or colder |
Comments |
Rubella virus is 40-80 nm in diameter and ether sensitive. Vials contain total fluid and material from cell culture infected by virus. The vials will contain cellular debris and possibly cells containing cell-associated virus. |
Effect on Host |
No CPE produced on production host. Recognized primarily by interference for other viruses (GMK), or production of CF and HA antigens. |
Recommended Host |
BS-C-1 (ATCC® CCL-26™) |
Growth Conditions |
Temperature: 35°C
Recommendations for Infection: Plate cells 24 hours prior to infection and infect when cultures are 60-70% confluent. Remove medium and inoculate with a small volume of virus (e.g. 1 mL per 25 cm2) diluted to provide an optimal MOI (e.g. 0.1). Adsorb 1-2 hours at 35°C in a humidified 5% CO2 atmosphere, rocking every 20-30 minutes to redistribute inoculum. End adsorption by adding virus growth medium.
Incubation: 11-15 days |
